Senior PHY System Integration Engineer

Role Summary

Member of the Networking (Mellanox) systems engineering team responsible for integrating PHY-level and optical electrical subsystems for high-performance optical switches and transceivers. The role focuses on system-level verification, lab characterization, cross-disciplinary coordination, and transitioning designs toward production.

Senior - typically 8+ years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include technical leadership for PHY and optical subsystem integration and hands-on test and validation.

  • Act as technical focal point for integration of PHY system aspects and optical electrical subsystems, ensuring performance targets are met.
  • Plan and perform cross-disciplinary lab testing and characterization with architecture, optics, silicon, thermal, mechanical, SI/PI, and software teams.
  • Characterize optical links using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, BER testers, optical spectrum analyzers) and simulation tools.
  • Drive product scalability and work with qualification teams to move designs from prototype to high-volume production.
  • Document design specifications, test plans, results, and performance metrics.

Requirements

  • Must-have: 8+ years of relevant engineering experience focused on high-speed communications or related systems.
  • Must-have: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; solid engineering intuition about physical trade-offs.
  • Must-have: Excellent communication and collaboration skills for multidisciplinary projects.
  • Must-have: Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced product development environment.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience in high-speed transceiver and PHY design.
  • Nice-to-have: Knowledge of electro-optic communications, high-speed signals, and analog circuits.
  • Nice-to-have: Hands-on optoelectrical lab validation experience.
  • Nice-to-have: Advanced degree (M.Sc./PhD) in electrical engineering or related field.

Education Requirements

Required: B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience. Preferred: M.Sc. or PhD in Electrical Engineering. Equivalent experience accepted where specified.
