Job Title

Senior Package Layout Engineer - Hardware

Role Summary

Design and implement detailed IC substrate and PCB layouts for high-speed, high-density ASIC packages. Work within a package layout team and collaborate with the Technical Package Lead and cross-functional design teams to resolve electrical, manufacturing, cost, and schedule trade-offs.

Focus on substrate breakout, routing, pinout optimization, CAD library development, and productivity improvements for NVIDIA products.

Experience Level

Senior β€” typically requires 5+ years of relevant PCB and substrate layout experience.

Responsibilities

Key duties include:

  • Implement high-speed, high-density ASIC package layouts as part of a layout team.
  • Create substrate breakout patterns and develop package routing, placement, and stack-up.
  • Optimize package pinout based on system-level trade-offs and performance goals.
  • Plan power distribution and reference planes; address signal integrity and electrical constraints.
  • Use Cadence APD or SiP tool suite (and PCB tools) for layout and Constraint Manager for rule control.
  • Conduct feasibility studies evaluating size, cost, manufacturability, and system performance.
  • Develop symbols and CAD library databases and propose layout design trade-offs to technical leads.
  • Develop methodologies to improve layout productivity and design quality.

Requirements

Must-have and preferred experience and skills.

  • Must-have: 5+ years experience in PCB layout for graphics cards, motherboards, line cards, or related products.
  • Must-have: Proven experience in substrate layout for wire bond and flip chip packages.
  • Must-have: Significant experience with Cadence APD or SiP and/or PCB layout tools, including Constraint Manager.
  • Must-have: Solid understanding of high-speed design and signal integrity practices.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with HDI designs.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with Virtuoso, Calibre, or Valor tools.

Education Requirements

Hold a B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience; equivalent experience is explicitly acceptable.
