Senior Package Layout Engineer - Hardware
Role Summary
As a Senior Package Layout Engineer on the Layout team, you will develop detailed IC substrate and ASIC package layouts for NVIDIA products, collaborating with the Technical Package Lead and cross-functional design teams. The role focuses on substrate breakout, pinout optimization, routing, stack-up and power distribution to meet size, cost and system performance targets.
Work includes tool development and methodology improvements to increase layout productivity.
Experience Level
Senior — typically 5+ years of relevant PCB/substrate layout experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Implement high-speed, high-density ASIC package layouts and substrate breakout patterns.
- Optimize package pinouts based on system-level trade-offs.
- Perform package routing, placement, stack-up and power-distribution planning using Cadence APD or SiP tools.
- Propose and evaluate layout design trade-offs with the Technical Package Lead.
- Conduct feasibility studies for size, cost and electrical performance.
- Develop CAD symbols and library databases and improve layout methodologies and productivity.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred qualifications:
- 5+ years experience in PCB layout for graphics cards, motherboards, line cards or related technologies.
- Strong experience with Cadence APD or SiP tool suites and PCB layout tools, including Constraint Manager.
- Solid understanding of high-speed design and signal-integrity practices.
- Proven ability to work in cross-functional teams and communicate design trade-offs.
- Nice-to-have: experience with HDI designs, substrate layout for wire-bond and flip-chip packages, Virtuoso and Calibre, and Valor.
Education Requirements
BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
