Job Title
Senior OSAT Engineer
Role Summary
Lead outsourced assembly and test (OSAT) engineering across global suppliers for Altera FPGAs/SoCs. Responsible for NPI readiness, yield optimization, cost reduction, qualification, and cross-functional collaboration to achieve volume manufacturing targets.
Experience Level
Senior β typically requires 10+ years of semiconductor assembly, packaging, or test engineering experience.
Responsibilities
Primary duties include supplier engagement, NPI, yield and reliability improvement, and manufacturing readiness.
- Lead technical engagement with OSAT suppliers on process development, yield ramp, and volume readiness.
- Manage NPI from engineering builds through production release, ensuring electrical, thermal, and mechanical requirements are met.
- Optimize packaging and test architectures for performance, cost, and reliability (flip-chip BGA, high-pin-count packages, substrate technologies, wafer-level solutions).
- Analyze manufacturing data, identify systemic issues, and lead root-cause investigations and corrective actions.
- Coordinate with Test Engineering, Package Design, Product Engineering, DFM, and Quality on process optimization and failure analysis.
- Implement process control systems, SPC methodologies, automation, and lean manufacturing practices at OSAT partners.
- Lead or support reliability testing and package qualification per industry standards (JEDEC, IPC, AEC-Q).
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.
- 10+ years in semiconductor assembly, packaging, or test engineering with hands-on OSAT experience.
- Practical experience across wafer finishing, substrate attach, interconnect packaging, test, and burn-in.
- Strong understanding of backend flows: flip-chip, wire bond, underfill, molding, final test, and reliability analysis.
- Proven ability to analyze yield, reliability, and cost data to drive engineering decisions and improvements.
- Experience working with international suppliers and cross-functional teams; strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Statistical analysis skills and technical reporting experience.
- Nice-to-have: FPGA/ASIC/SoC backend experience, automotive/high-reliability qualifications (AEC-Q), advanced packaging (2.5D/3D, fan-out WLP), supply-chain risk mitigation, and automation/traceability systems.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
