Job Title

Senior Network Modeling Engineer

Role Summary

The Senior Network Modeling Engineer will develop and maintain network simulation tools, model advanced network topologies and traffic patterns for AI and HPC systems, and drive performance analysis that informs system architecture decisions.

Works within the Network Architecture, Modeling and Performance Insights group, collaborating with hardware and software teams to validate models against real system behavior.

Experience Level

Senior β€” requires substantial professional experience (see requirements).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include building and using simulation tools to analyze network behavior and performance for AI/HPC workloads.

  • Model advanced network topologies, configurations, and traffic patterns representative of real AI/HPC workloads.
  • Develop, extend, and maintain the simulation codebase; contribute modular, scalable C++/Python code.
  • Analyze end-to-end system performance and provide actionable insights to architects and product teams.
  • Map hardware and software features into the simulation domain to support design trade-offs and optimizations.
  • Own the performance modeling roadmap for assigned features and drive projects from concept to delivery.
  • Validate modeling assumptions against hardware and software measurements; improve simulator robustness and reliability.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; followed by concise nice-to-have items.

  • 5+ years of professional hands-on coding experience.
  • Strong proficiency in C++ and Python; comfortable navigating and optimizing large-scale codebases.
  • End-to-end system perspective: able to relate hardware behavior and microarchitecture to software performance (latency/throughput).
  • Proven project ownership and ability to lead technical initiatives with minimal supervision.

Nice-to-have

  • Background in communication networks (Ethernet, NVLink, InfiniBand) and data center networking protocols.
  • Familiarity with discrete event simulators (e.g., OMNeT++, SystemC, or architectural simulators).
  • Experience in computer architecture, distributed systems, or algorithms beyond core requirements.

Education Requirements

BSc or above in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degrees (MS/PhD) in computer architecture, networking, distributed systems, or related areas are listed as preferred.
