Job Title
Senior Memory Subsystem Firmware Engineer
Role Summary
Lead development and ownership of DRAM/memory firmware from architecture through production silicon for high-performance SoC memory subsystems. Work across pre-silicon and silicon bring-up, validation, and production tuning with cross-functional hardware and lab teams.
Experience Level
Senior β typically requires 6+ years of relevant DRAM/memory firmware development experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include designing firmware and driving memory bring-up and validation.
- Own DRAM firmware lifecycle: architecture, implementation, silicon bring-up, and production tuning.
- Design and implement DRAM initialization and training sequences, including calibration algorithms and firmware implementations.
- Characterize and tune memory interfaces across PVT (process, voltage, temperature) to maintain timing margins.
- Drive memory bring-up and validation strategy; diagnose and root-cause complex hardware/software interactions in lab and pre-silicon environments.
- Define and enforce firmware quality practices: code review, profiling, and test coverage; mentor early-career engineers.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; nice-to-have items listed separately.
-
Must-have: 6+ years of DRAM/memory firmware development experience for high-speed LPDDR or system DDR.
-
Must-have: Strong command of DRAM initialization and training protocols, calibration algorithms, and firmware implementation.
-
Must-have: Deep understanding of DRAM interfaces and how PVT variation affects timing, training, and margining.
-
Must-have: Proficiency in C/C++; familiarity with data structures, compilers, build systems, and version control.
-
Must-have: Strong debugging skills and ability to decompose complex, ambiguous failures from first principles.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience across DDR, LPDDR, HBM and with multiple DRAM vendors.
-
Nice-to-have: Signal-integrity intuition and comfort with analog/mixed-signal behavior.
-
Nice-to-have: Understanding of ASIC boot architecture.
Education Requirements
BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field β or equivalent practical experience.
