Senior Mask Layout Design Engineer
Role Summary
Responsible for physical mask layout of mixed-signal circuits (PLLs, high-speed I/O, general I/O, ESD) in sub-micron CMOS processes. Collaborate with ASIC and mixed-signal engineers to integrate custom layouts into VLSI products and maintain verification flows.
Experience Level
Senior level β typically requires a minimum of 5+ years of relevant mask design/layout experience.
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include custom layout implementation, verification, and collaboration to prepare designs for tape-out.
- Perform physical layout for mixed-signal functions (PLLs, high-speed I/O, general I/O, ESD) using Cadence tools.
- Floor planning and full-custom layout for sub-micron CMOS technologies.
- Verify layouts against design rules and schematics; run and debug DRC and LVS.
- Collaborate with ASIC and mixed-signal engineers to customize designs for integration into VLSI products.
- Maintain and customize DRC/LVS decks and verification flows.
- Develop and maintain scripting utilities to automate layout and verification tasks.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- Minimum 5+ years of mask design/layout experience.
- Expertise with Cadence custom circuit design tools, particularly Virtuoso.
- Experience running and debugging DRC and LVS with tools such as Dracula, Hercules, Calibre, PrimeYield.
- Proficiency in scripting languages (Perl, Python, Skill, etc.).
- Knowledge of DRC and LVS checking flows and ability to customize decks.
- Effective spoken and written English; ability to work in a team.
- Nice-to-have: experience with high-speed mixed-signal layout techniques for PLLs and I/O circuits.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent practical experience; degrees in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or related technical fields acceptable.
