Senior Mask Design Engineer – Hardware

Role Summary

The Senior Mask Design Engineer will design and develop detailed physical layouts for silicon interposers used in NVIDIA products. The role works with package technical leads, I/O signal integrity, technology engineers, and multiple design teams to deliver manufacturable layouts that meet cost, size, and electrical requirements.

Experience Level

Senior — minimum of 5+ years of experience in mask and layout design.

Responsibilities

The role requires hands-on mask/layout implementation, verification, and cross-functional coordination to meet schedule and product goals.

  • Collaborate with package technical lead, signal-integrity, and technology teams to define and deliver package layout solutions.
  • Perform physical layout of silicon interposers using Cadence tools (Virtuoso).
  • Conduct feasibility studies evaluating size, cost, and system performance trade-offs.
  • Develop floorplans, perform custom layout, and verify designs against DRC/LVS and netlists.
  • Run and debug verification flows and support customization of decks and flows.
  • Propose layout trade-offs and support resolution of manufacturing, cost, and electrical issues.
  • Plan work schedules and coordinate with design teams to meet delivery deadlines.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, tools knowledge, and practical experience are listed below. Nice-to-have items are indicated.

  • Minimum 5+ years proven experience in mask and layout design.
  • Deep understanding of layout concepts for submicron CMOS technologies.
  • Expert user of Cadence Virtuoso for layout.
  • Experience with verification tools such as Calibre, ICV, Thunder, or similar.
  • Proficient in scripting languages (Perl, Python, SKILL, etc.).
  • Experience with DRC and LVS checking flows and ability to customize decks.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills; ability to work in cross-functional teams.
  • Nice-to-have: Integrity auto-routing experience, APD package layout tool knowledge, and packaging technology familiarity.

Education Requirements

B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
