Senior Mask Design Engineer - Hardware

Role Summary

Design and implement detailed physical layouts for silicon interposers used in NVIDIA products. Work within the package engineering organization and across design teams to deliver manufacturable, cost-effective layouts that meet electrical and system performance goals.

The role partners with the Package Technical Lead, signal-integrity and technology engineers to plan schedules, resolve manufacturing and electrical issues, and propose layout trade-offs for implementation.

Experience Level

Senior-level. The posting requests a minimum of 5+ years of experience in mask and layout design.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include layout, verification, trade-off analysis, and cross-functional collaboration for silicon interposer and package layouts.

• Collaborate with Package Technical Lead, I/O signal integrity, and technology engineers to deliver package solutions on tight schedules.
• Perform physical layout for silicon interposers using Cadence tools.
• Conduct design feasibility studies assessing size, cost, and system performance trade-offs.
• Develop layout floorplans and perform custom layout consistent with netlists and design rules.
• Run verification against DRC/LVS and debug verification results.
• Propose layout design trade-offs to the PTL and support resolution and implementation.
• Plan schedules and assist in resolving manufacturing and electrical design issues impacting layout.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, tools experience, and years of relevant work in mask and layout design.

• Minimum of 5+ years proven experience in mask and layout design.
• Deep understanding of layout concepts in submicron CMOS technologies.
• Proficiency with Cadence layout tools, particularly Virtuoso.
• Experience with physical verification tools such as Calibre, ICV, Thunder, or equivalents.
• Proficient in scripting (Perl, Python, Skill) to automate flows and debug issues.
• Knowledge of DRC and LVS checking flows and ability to customize decks and debug flows.
• Good cross-functional communication and schedule management skills.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience with Integrity auto-routing.
• Experience with APD package layout tool.

Education Requirements

Hold a B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
