Job Title

Senior Manager, SSD Firmware

Role Summary

Leads a firmware engineering team responsible for the analysis, design, implementation, debugging, and validation of embedded firmware for SSD/storage products. Works closely with hardware, system, and test teams to deliver reliable firmware for ASIC/SoC-based storage solutions.

Accountable for technical direction, delivery planning, and personnel development to meet product schedules and quality targets.

Experience Level

Senior-level; approximately 12+ years of embedded firmware experience. Storage/SSD domain experience is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include technical leadership, project delivery, and team management.

  • Manage and direct firmware team activities: design, implementation, debugging, and maintenance of embedded firmware.
  • Oversee low-level programming (assembly, machine code) and high-level C/C++ development for SoC/ASIC firmware.
  • Define technical direction, scope work, estimate effort, and prioritize tasks to meet schedules.
  • Collaborate with hardware, system, and test teams to reproduce issues and optimize performance-critical algorithms.
  • Establish debugging practices using register-level access, instrumentation, and development tools; guide root-cause analysis.
  • Recruit, coach, and evaluate engineers to ensure effective team operation and delivery.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; nice-to-have items noted.

  • 12+ years of embedded firmware development experience; storage/SSD experience is a strong plus.
  • Proven firmware design and debug skills in assembly and C.
  • Understanding of SSD concepts such as flash translation layer (FTL), wear leveling, and garbage collection.
  • Experience with ARM development tools and embedded IDEs.
  • Experience configuring and debugging ASIC/SoC register settings in an embedded firmware environment.
  • Strong ability to recreate problems, trap faults, and identify performance-critical algorithms for optimization.
  • Ability to scope and estimate development effort and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills; experience supervising or building engineering teams.
  • Nice to have: experience with mass-storage interfaces (SAS, SATA, NVMe) and test equipment (oscilloscopes, logic/ bus analyzers).

Education Requirements

Not specified.
