Senior Manager, Silicon Photonics Testing and Packaging

Role Summary

Lead development and manufacturing transfer of test and packaging solutions for silicon photonics products. This role manages NPI test development, vendor relationships, and readiness for high-volume manufacturing while leading a team of test and packaging engineers.

Experience Level

Senior-level: minimum 10 years in photonics test/packaging engineering with at least 5 years in a managerial or leadership role.

Responsibilities

The role is responsible for test solution development, manufacturing transfer, vendor management, and team leadership to ensure production-ready silicon photonics products.

• Lead NPI efforts to develop in-house test solutions and manage the tester RFQ process.
• Own transfer of qualified test solutions into high-volume manufacturing and ensure production readiness.
• Define test requirements and specifications working with design, process, and packaging engineering teams.
• Evaluate, select, and manage relationships with test-equipment vendors and suppliers, including negotiations.
• Drive test-yield improvement and cost-of-test reduction initiatives across the product lifecycle.
• Establish and maintain test methodologies, standards, and manufacturing-ready documentation.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources for test development programs.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of test and packaging engineers.
• Collaborate with R&D, operations, quality, and supply chain to align on product qualification milestones.
• Provide technical guidance on packaging and test integration challenges specific to silicon photonics devices.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

• Minimum 10 years in photonics test/packaging engineering with proven NPI, test solution development, and HVM transfer experience.
• At least 5 years in a managerial or leadership capacity.
• Strong understanding of silicon photonics packaging and test processes (optical alignment, wafer-level/final test, wire bonding, fiber attach).
• Experience managing tester RFQ processes and vendor negotiations.
• Strong project management, cross-functional collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
• Excellent leadership and people management capabilities.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, Materials, or a related technical field.
