Job Title

Senior Managed Runtime Compiler Engineer

Role Summary

Join the compiler and runtime team working to improve execution efficiency for NVIDIA's data-center CPUs. The role focuses on compiler and runtime performance across interpreters, JIT/AOT compilers, virtual machines, garbage collection, runtime libraries, and OS interactions.

Initial efforts target CPU Agentic workflows and managed languages such as Python and Node.js; work may also span JDK, CPython, JavaScript/V8, and related runtimes.

Experience Level

Senior β€” requires 5+ years of production software development experience in compilers, language runtimes, virtual machines, interpreters, performance engineering, or related systems software.

Responsibilities

You will diagnose performance bottlenecks across language runtimes and deliver production-quality optimizations in open source and internal stacks.

  • Partner with a distributed team of compiler, runtime, architecture, and systems engineers to accelerate workloads on NVIDIA CPU platforms.
  • Analyze execution paths across interpreters, bytecode, JIT/AOT compilers, VMs, garbage collectors, runtime libraries, and OS interactions.
  • Investigate CPU Agentic application stacks (Python, Node.js, Java) and related frameworks to identify hot paths and inefficiencies.
  • Use profiling, tracing, benchmarking, and hardware performance counters to find and validate performance improvements.
  • Implement and upstream optimizations to open source projects and integrate fixes into internal NVIDIA software stacks.
  • Participate in HW/SW co-design from pre-silicon analysis through product launch and production support.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for successful candidates.

  • 5+ years of production software development experience in compilers, language runtimes, virtual machines, interpreters, performance engineering, or systems software.
  • Excellent hands-on C/C++ programming skills and experience working in large production codebases.
  • Deep understanding of managed runtime implementation techniques such as bytecode interpreters, JIT/AOT compilation, profiling, deoptimization, inline caching, garbage collection, runtime libraries, and VM services.
  • Practical experience analyzing and improving application performance using profilers, tracing, benchmarking, and hardware performance counters.
  • Strong software design fundamentals and the ability to diagnose complex issues and deliver production-quality optimizations.

Nice-to-have:

  • Direct contribution experience with JDK/HotSpot/Graal/OpenJ9, CPython/PyPy, Google V8/Node.js, LLVM, or GCC.
  • Deep knowledge of Java, Python, JavaScript, or other language runtime internals.
  • Experience optimizing workloads on ARM (SVE/SVE2, Neon), memory hierarchy, synchronization, or NUMA-sensitive systems.
  • Track record of upstream open source contributions, technical leadership, mentoring, or cross-team initiatives.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field β€” or equivalent practical experience.
