Senior Layout Engineer
Role Summary
Senior Layout Engineer for the Power and Signal Conversion business group responsible for transistor-level analog and mixed-signal layout. The role designs layouts, manages multiple project queues, mentors contract and junior layout engineers, and collaborates with design, process, packaging and IP teams to deliver production-ready ICs.
Experience Level
Senior β typically requires 5+ years of analog/mixed-signal layout design experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include layout design, project coordination, mentorship, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Design layouts for transistor-level analog and mixed-signal circuit blocks and subsystems.
- Manage project layout queues and timelines across business-group projects.
- Guide, mentor and supervise contract and junior layout resources.
- Produce detailed layout documentation and collaborate with design, layout and process teams.
- Interface with process, packaging, and IP stakeholders to influence product development.
- Participate in product definition and contribute to architecture and implementation decisions.
- Develop innovative layout solutions for intellectual property protection (patents/trade secrets).
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, tools and behaviors for successful performance.
- 5+ years of analog/mixed-signal layout design experience (core IPs such as amplifiers, data converters, LDOs, digital filters, transceivers).
- Proficient with layout tools such as Cadence Virtuoso and Virtuoso-XL.
- Experience with post-layout parasitic extraction tools (e.g. Calibre, Assura).
- Experience or familiarity with Pcell development, SKILL scripting, and PDK maintenance is a plus.
- Exposure to digital place-and-route workflows is a plus.
- Solid track record of executing competitive layouts to schedule and specification.
- Knowledge of semiconductor processes and packaging considerations.
- Strong layout design concepts and familiarity with analog circuit fundamentals.
- Time management, initiative, teamwork, and effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor junior engineers and manage work assignments for contract resources.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent). The posting also allows equivalent practical experience in lieu of a degree.
