Senior IC Validation Engineer

Role Summary

The IC Validation engineer validates Broadcom storage and PCIe switch silicon across pre- and post-silicon phases. Work involves lab bring-up, system-level validation and debugging, and collaborating with design, firmware, FPGA/emulation and board teams.

Experience Level

Senior. Typical experience: 3+ years industry experience with a Master’s degree, or 5+ years industry experience with a Bachelor’s degree (see Education Requirements for full details).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include planning and executing system-level validation and debugging on emulation platforms and prototype silicon.

• Create, review and execute validation test plans for emulation platforms and prototype silicon.
• Develop embedded firmware and host software tools in C/C++ for low-level system validation.
• Write Python automation and test scripts to control protocol exercisers and lab equipment.
• Collaborate with software development, FPGA emulation and IC design teams during pre/post-silicon validation.
• Support board development and review reference board designs and product requirements.
• Drive technical debug and resolution of system-level issues; propose and implement workarounds.
• Support external customers during initial silicon bring-up and system integration/troubleshooting.
• Prepare technical documentation and present findings to engineering teams and field engineers.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and workplace requirements; preferred items listed separately.

• Must-have: Legal authorization to work in the United States.
• Must-have: Practical experience developing and debugging C/C++ code (embedded firmware or system drivers/host apps).
• Must-have: Experience writing automated test scripts in Python.
• Must-have: Solid understanding of computer architecture and system-level operation; experience with system-level debug using firmware debuggers, logic analyzers and protocol analyzers.
• Must-have: Experience working in Linux environments.
• Must-have: Strong problem solving, communication, documentation and teamwork skills.
• Nice-to-have: ARM architecture and firmware programming knowledge.
• Nice-to-have: PCIe (Gen3/4/5) protocol experience (LTSSM, system enumeration, config space) and protocol-level debugging experience.
• Nice-to-have: Familiarity with PCB concepts and ability to read board-level schematics.

Education Requirements

Master’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering (typical expectation: 3+ years industry experience) or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering (typical expectation: 5+ years industry experience). No certifications were specified. Legal authorization to work in the US is required.
