Job Title

Senior IC Validation Engineer

Role Summary

Validate and debug Broadcom storage and PCIe-switch silicon across pre-silicon (emulation) and post-silicon cycles. Work in a lab environment with hardware and software development teams to develop test plans, firmware/tools, and system-level validation to ensure products meet specifications and industry standards.

Experience Level

Senior. This role expects an experienced engineer with several years of hands-on IC or system validation experience; see Education Requirements for formal experience-by-degree guidance.

Responsibilities

Perform system-level validation, automation, and debug from bring-up through product release.

  • Create, review, and execute validation test plans for emulation platforms and prototype silicon.
  • Develop embedded firmware and host software (C/C++) for low-level system validation and tools.
  • Automate test equipment and protocol exercisers with scripts and control software (Python and other tools).
  • Collaborate with software development, FPGA emulation, IC design, and board teams during pre/post-silicon validation.
  • Drive technical debug and implement workarounds or fixes for complex system-level issues using FW debuggers, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers.
  • Support customer bring-up and system integration troubleshooting; present technical information and produce engineering documentation.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, working habits, and eligibility.

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Proven experience developing and debugging C/C++ code for embedded firmware or system drivers/host applications.
  • Experience writing and debugging automated test scripts in Python.
  • Practical system-level debug experience using firmware debuggers, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers.
  • Solid understanding of computer architecture and system-level operation.
  • Familiarity with Linux development environments.
  • Ability to read board-level schematics and basic PCB concepts.
  • Strong problem solving, communication, documentation, and teamwork skills; able to work independently under tight schedules.
  • Nice-to-have: ARM architecture/firmware experience, PCIe (Gen3/4/5) protocol knowledge (LTSSM, enumeration, config space), prior work with board or reference designs.

Education Requirements

Master's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering plus a minimum of 3+ years industry experience; OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering plus a minimum of 5+ years industry experience. (These degree-and-experience combinations are specified by the employer.)
