Senior HSIO/DDR Bench Test Engineer
QualcommJob Title
Senior HSIO/DDR Bench Test Engineer
Role Summary
Member of the Post-Silicon Engineering group responsible for developing test solutions and characterization methods for highly integrated SoCs. Focus areas include high-speed SERDES interfaces and LP-/PC-DDR subsystems, silicon bring-up, and electrical compliance validation.
The engineer will define and execute characterization plans, perform silicon bring-up and debugging, analyze parametric performance across conditions, and collaborate with IC design, systems, and customer teams to resolve hardware issues.
Experience Level
Senior - the posting expects an experienced engineer. Minimum listed experience is 5+ years in related areas; experienced candidates with multi-year post-silicon or bench-test backgrounds are preferred.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include planning and executing bench test and characterization activities, silicon bring-up, and cross-team debugging.
- Define and execute test methodologies and characterization plans for high-speed interfaces (PCIe, USB3, UFS, DP, MIPI, PLLs).
- Characterize and validate LP-DDR and PC-DDR subsystems (DRAM, controllers, PHY IP, I/Os, clocking, delay circuits, PDN).
- Perform electrical compliance testing, eye/jitter analysis, and parametric performance analysis across operating conditions.
- Lead first-silicon bring-up, failure analysis, and debug to qualify foundry-fabricated designs.
- Assist in hardware design and debug for power integrity (PI) and signal integrity (SI) issues related to package and board design.
- Work closely with IC design, systems engineering, customer engineering, and applications teams to resolve RMAs and customer issues.
- Conduct specialized analyses such as feasibility studies, signal integrity evaluations, and teardowns.
Requirements
Must-have skills and qualifications follow; preferred items are listed as nice-to-have.
- Must-have: Fluent English (verbal and written).
- Must-have: 5+ years of relevant hardware/bench test experience (posting lists 5+ years minimum).
- Must-have: Strong problem solving, debug skills, and ability to work independently; clear documentation and communication skills.
- Must-have: Knowledge of VLSI technologies, CMOS analog/digital ICs, mixed-signal concepts, and ASIC device-level characterization.
- Nice-to-have: Hands-on experience with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, TDR/VNA, J-BERT) and test automation (Python, C#).
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with SERDES characterization, transmitter/receiver blocks, and DDR protocols (DDR2/3/4/5, LPDDR variants).
- Nice-to-have: Board design familiarity (schematic review, layout best practices) and system-level testing experience.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field is cited; Master's degree and PhD in related technical fields are also listed as acceptable. The posting specifies degree-plus-experience variants (e.g., Bachelor's + 2+ years, Master's + 1+ year) and explicitly mentions Master's and PhD as alternative qualifications.
