Senior Hardware (FPGA) Engineer
Role Summary
Join a multi-disciplinary engineering team responsible for FPGA designs in a distributed embedded system that includes machine vision, cameras, laser drivers, high-speed communications, and image processing.
Accountable for the full FPGA development lifecycle: architecture, RTL design, simulation, verification, release, and ongoing support.
Experience Level
Senior β minimum 5+ years of relevant FPGA or ASIC digital-logic design and verification experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include architecture, RTL design, verification, and cross-team integration.
- Lead design and implementation of high-performance RTL using VHDL, Verilog and SystemVerilog.
- Define FPGA architecture and micro-architecture from system-level requirements.
- Collaborate with hardware and software teams to define HW/SW interfaces and memory maps.
- Select FPGA vendors and device families based on project requirements.
- Develop and maintain self-checking testbenches (SystemVerilog/UVM or VHDL/OSVVM) and constrained-random tests.
- Analyze component and FPGA datasheets to verify timing, voltage, and power compatibility.
- Mentor engineers through code reviews and technical guidance.
- Conduct feasibility studies for new features and platforms; resolve vendor/tool issues and manage IP cores.
- Provide release support and troubleshooting for FPGA implementations in the field.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- 5+ years designing and testing digital logic for FPGA or ASIC-based systems.
- Hands-on experience with VHDL and/or Verilog for complex designs with multiple clock domains and high-speed interfaces (LVDS, PCIe, memories, MIPI, multi-gigabit transceivers).
- Experience developing self-verifying simulation environments and verification techniques.
- Strong debugging skills for logic, timing, implementation, and synchronization issues.
- Experience using hardware debugging tools (logic analyzers, Chipscope/ILA).
- Ability to translate high-level requirements into architectures considering resources, power, performance, maintainability, and partitioning between hardware and software.
- Proven ability to work in small teams and deliver documented designs on schedule.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with Xilinx Zynq7K/MP, AXI, Vivado, Xilinx ISE, or vendor SoC platforms (Intel, Lattice).
- Familiarity with image processing, machine vision, or AI tools.
- Experience with soft-core CPUs (MicroBlaze), SystemC, UVM, TCL, C/C++, oscilloscopes, and advanced debugging equipment.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is required. A P.Eng. designation or progress toward it is desirable.
