Senior Hardware Engineer, Analog & Mixed-Signal
Voyant PhotonicsJob Title
Senior Hardware Engineer, Analog & Mixed-Signal
Role Summary
Lead the analog and mixed-signal hardware architecture for compact, high-performance LiDAR modules. Own system-level trade-offs across TIAs, ADCs, precision current sources, and power delivery, and drive validation and manufacturability for high-volume production.
Work closely with system architects, mechanical engineering, firmware, and suppliers; mentor engineers and act as the senior technical authority for hardware design and bring-up.
Experience Level
Senior - requires 10+ years of hands-on hardware development experience with end-to-end ownership of multiple systems shipped at scale.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities focus on architecture, technical leadership, design robustness, and cross-functional delivery.
- Define analog and mixed-signal architecture for next-generation LiDAR modules (TIAs, ADCs, current sources, power delivery).
- Set design standards and review processes for signal integrity (SI), power integrity (PI), and EMI/EMC.
- Lead board bring-up, characterization, EVT/DVT/PVT planning, and validation for multiple programs.
- Make high-stakes trade-offs on performance, cost, power, and integration to influence roadmap and unit economics.
- Mentor hardware engineers and provide technical direction in cross-functional reviews.
- Drive supplier and component strategy; engage with vendors and foundries on critical components.
- Represent hardware engineering in technical deep-dives with customers, partners, and investors when needed.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience for immediate impact; preferred items listed separately.
- 10+ years of hands-on hardware development with ownership of products shipped at high volume.
- Proven technical leadership in setting direction for a team or product line.
- Expertise in low-noise analog and high-speed digital board-level design.
- Deep knowledge of signal integrity, power integrity, high-density interconnects, and EMI mitigation.
- Experience driving DFM, reliability testing, and yield improvement for volume manufacture.
- Fluent with schematic capture and simulation (SPICE); experienced with Altium or equivalent.
- Advanced use of SI/PI tools (e.g., HyperLynx, SiWave) and RF/measurement tools (GHz scopes, VNAs, spectrum analyzers).
- Extensive experience integrating FPGAs, microcontrollers, and custom analog ASICs at the board level.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience in photonics, LiDAR, or precision-sensing hardware.
- Experience with flex/rigid-flex PCB design and mixed-signal modeling (e.g., Verilog-AMS).
- Background in designing for automotive, aerospace, or other high-reliability environments.
- Prior experience scaling a hardware engineering team or serving as a formal technical lead/architect.
Education Requirements
Not specified.
