Senior Hardware Engineer
SynopsysJob Title
Senior Hardware Engineer
Role Summary
Senior engineer responsible for validation and characterization of mixed-signal IP (HDMI, DisplayPort, MIPI) in the Synopsys Porto laboratory. Build and operate lab test infrastructure, automate characterization workflows, and provide performance data to design teams.
The role focuses on developing scalable automation and measurement setups that improve coverage and reduce manual test time across multiple IP families.
Experience Level
Senior - typically 5+ years of relevant industry experience in hardware validation, test automation, or product development.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include designing and executing validation workflows, operating lab equipment, and delivering reproducible results and infrastructure.
- Develop and deploy automation/AI frameworks to characterize mixed-signal IP (HDMI, DisplayPort, MIPI) and reduce manual test time.
- Design and build laboratory test setups: select instruments, design fixtures, and validate signal integrity across the measurement chain.
- Operate oscilloscopes, arbitrary waveform generators, network analyzers, protocol analyzers, and other high-end lab equipment to extract silicon performance data.
- Troubleshoot complex hardware and measurement issues across DUT, test fixtures, instruments, and automation scripts.
- Interpret schematics, layout files, and test specifications to validate IP against design requirements.
- Document test procedures, results, and configurations for reproducibility and team knowledge transfer.
- Collaborate with hardware design engineers to improve test setups, measurement techniques, and close validation gaps.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience. Nice-to-have items listed separately.
- 5+ years applying automation or advanced test methodologies to hardware validation or product development.
- Strong knowledge of mixed-signal IC concepts: ADCs, DACs, PLLs, and high-speed I/O architectures.
- Proficiency in Python for test automation, data analysis, and instrument control.
- Hands-on experience with lab instruments such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, and network analyzers.
- Solid understanding of transmission line theory, s-parameters, and signal integrity fundamentals.
- Experience with UNIX/Linux environments and scripting.
- Ability to diagnose failing tests by isolating setup, software, signal integrity, or device issues; write clear automation code and documentation.
- Nice-to-have: Verilog or MATLAB experience.
Education Requirements
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or an equivalent technical discipline preferred; equivalent practical experience is acceptable.
