Job Title

Senior Hardware Design Engineer

Role Summary

Lead hardware design for high-speed Ethernet and IPU/FNIC platform projects within Intel Central Engineering Group (CEG). Work across schematic, layout, silicon bring-up and debug with cross-functional teams (design, system, pre/post-silicon, test).

The team focuses on high-speed I/O and Ethernet infrastructure; the role combines high-frequency signal and power integrity engineering, RF-awareness, board-level design, and lab validation in a hybrid on-site/off-site work model.

Experience Level

Senior - typically 10+ years of relevant hardware and board-design experience in the semiconductor/ASIC industry.

Responsibilities

Deliver hardware designs from schematic through silicon power-on, drive debug and validation, and provide technical leadership across board- and system-level activities.

  • Lead schematic and PCB design efforts including stack-up, placement, routing, and design-for-manufacturability considerations.
  • Drive signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI) analysis and verification for high-speed interfaces.
  • Define hardware requirements, select components/parts, and qualify new hardware solutions.
  • Coordinate cross-functional debugging during lab bring-up and silicon enablement.
  • Mentor and lead developers, run design reviews, and resolve schematic/layout/DFx issues.
  • Develop and validate test setups and measurement plans using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, VNA, TDR, BERT, etc.).
  • Collaborate with FPGA/firmware teams for board-level validation and logic bring-up.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience.

  • Proven hardware/board design experience in the semiconductor ASIC development industry.
  • Deep experience with PCB technology and layout techniques for analog and digital boards, including advanced SI/PI practices.
  • Practical knowledge of signal integrity, transmission line theory, analog circuits, and high-speed signal processing.
  • FPGA development and Verilog coding experience for validation and bring-up.
  • Strong hands-on debugging skills at the board level across analog and digital domains.
  • Lab experience operating high-end test equipment (oscilloscopes, VNA, TDR, BERT, etc.).
  • Programming skills in one or more: C++, Python, MATLAB for automation and analysis.
  • Ability to lead technical working groups and communicate effectively with engineers and program managers in English.
  • Working experience with AI-based tools for engineering workflows.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with Ethernet PHYs, PAM4 signaling, PCIe Gen6/Gen7, DDR5/DDR6 interfaces, and IPU/NIC platforms.
  • Experience with RF circuits and electromagnetic wave propagation in board-level contexts.

Education Requirements

B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering (listed in posting). The role describes senior-level candidates with advanced board- and system-level engineering background. Certifications or equivalent-experience language were not specified.
