Senior GPU Modeling & Compiler Engineer

Role Summary

Join Arm's Central Technology Graphics Hardware Architecture team in Austin to drive GPU architecture research, prototype improvements, and support delivery of Mali graphics IP. The role combines architecture exploration, hands-on prototyping, experimental validation, and collaboration with product and engineering teams.

Responsibilities

Own research and prototyping tasks that evaluate and validate GPU architectural ideas and trade-offs. Work closely with GPU architects and engineering teams to influence future GPU IP.

  • Prototype and evaluate GPU architectural improvements and microarchitecture ideas.
  • Perform experimental investigations and validate proposals using simulators and prototypes.
  • Collaborate with product groups and engineering teams to translate research into IP requirements.
  • Develop and maintain prototype code and tooling; debug complex system and performance issues.
  • Communicate results and recommendations through clear reports and presentations.

Requirements

Essential technical skills and practical experience required for the role.

  • Strong background in high-performance computer architecture with an understanding of GPU vs CPU trade-offs.
  • Professional programming experience in C/C++ and familiarity with scripting languages.
  • Experience working with large codebases and debugging complex problems.
  • Proficiency in hardware/software co-development and practical prototyping.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience developing timing-accurate simulators and performing architectural simulations.
  • Knowledge of compiler internals, e.g. register allocation and code generation techniques.
  • Familiarity with the Vulkan graphics pipeline and graphics stack.
  • Relevant personal projects, internships, or demonstrated curiosity across tools and systems.

Education Requirements

PhD preferred or on-track to complete a PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering (candidates expected to hold or be on track to hold a PhD before September 2026). Master's candidates with relevant industry experience will also be considered. Equivalent practical experience accepted where specified.
