Job Title

Senior GPU Floorplan Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and optimize GPU floorplans at chip and subsystem level, working with architects, RTL, physical design and package teams during early chip development.

This role focuses on early feasibility studies, trade-off exploration, area reviews, and driving decisions that affect timing, congestion, power distribution and overall chip implementation.

Experience Level

Senior β€” typically 5+ years of relevant experience in floorplan, SoC planning, ASIC physical design, or related roles.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include early-stage floorplanning, cross-team coordination, and tool/infrastructure improvements.

  • Develop and optimize chip and subsystem floorplans in collaboration with architects, design leads, physical design and package teams.
  • Lead area review processes and identify opportunities for area, interconnect and floorplan improvements.
  • Influence early design decisions to mitigate timing and routing congestion and to enable timing closure.
  • Analyze power distribution and physical constraints and propose implementation trade-offs.
  • Build and enhance tools and infrastructure to optimize chip area and speed up execution.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and practical experience.

  • Hands-on experience with chip-level or subsystem-level floorplanning and physical planning.
  • Deep hardware engineering background with concentration in VLSI and/or computer architecture.
  • Solid understanding of timing, congestion, power distribution, and physical implementation constraints.
  • Experience with Verilog, SystemVerilog or similar hardware description / verification languages.
  • Experience with CAD and physical design methodologies, including flow and tool development, P&R and timing closure.
  • Familiarity with packaging, power/clock distribution and related physical design considerations.
  • Software skills: Python, Perl and C/C++ for tooling and automation.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills; ability to work across distributed teams.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience driving development of large-scale ASIC floorplans.

Education Requirements

B.Tech. or M.Tech. (or equivalent) in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field; strong background or concentration in VLSI and/or computer architecture. (The source lists B.Tech./M.Tech.; equivalent practical experience implied by the senior experience requirement.)
