Role Summary

Join Arm's Central Technology Graphics Hardware Architecture team to define and prototype future Mali™ GPU architectures. The role combines architecture research, hands-on prototyping, performance analysis and collaboration with product and engineering teams.

Experience Level

Senior — typical candidates have substantial industry experience. Guidance from the posting: 6+ years with a bachelor’s, 4+ years with a master’s, or 2+ years with a PhD; at least 2 years of GPU-related experience is expected.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities focus on architecture research, prototyping, and performance validation for GPU IP.

  • Research GPU architecture and graphics/compute technology directions.
  • Design and build prototype architectural improvements and timing-accurate models or simulators.
  • Analyze performance of gaming and GPGPU workloads to identify bottlenecks.
  • Collaborate with product groups and engineering teams to validate concepts and support IP delivery.
  • Engage in hardware/software codesign, including driver and host interface considerations.
  • Document findings, present trade-offs, and contribute to patentable innovations.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and practical experience; nice-to-have items follow.

  • Must-have: At least 2 years of GPU-specific experience and strong background in computer architecture and graphics pipeline concepts.
  • Deep knowledge of GPU architectures including fixed-function graphics units and GPU/CPU trade-offs.
  • Strong programming skills in C/C++ and ability to work with large codebases and debug complex issues.
  • Proven analytical approach, effective communication, and ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience in performance modeling, workload analysis, timing-accurate simulation, graphics/compute APIs (Vulkan, OpenGL, DX, OpenCL, CUDA), and system-level accelerator integration.

Education Requirements

The posting lists formal and equivalent options: Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in computer architecture, computer engineering, computer science or related technical fields are referenced. Alternatives include an applicable professional background or equivalent practical experience with the corresponding industry experience guidance (e.g., 6+ years with a Bachelor’s, 4+ with an MS, or 2+ with a PhD).
