Senior FPGA Silicon Validation Engineer
AlteraJob Title
Senior FPGA Silicon Validation Engineer
Role Summary
Design and implement FPGA-based prototypes and test environments to validate FPGA silicon, IP, software, tools, and system integrations. Work with cross-functional teams to define validation strategy, develop test plans, execute lab validation, and qualify products for release.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The posting identifies this as a senior position; no explicit years-of-experience were listed.
Responsibilities
Deliver validation environments, tests, and prototypes to exercise silicon across functionality, performance, and power targets, and drive resolution of bring-up and electrical issues.
- Develop FPGA designs that mimic customer use models to validate silicon, IP, software, tools, and integration.
- Design and improve silicon validation environments, methodologies, and lab test setups.
- Create synthetic test content to characterize functionality, performance, and power; qualify tests for product release.
- Implement digital logic in FPGA prototypes and evaluate architecture/design trade-offs.
- Apply hardware and software tools to ensure functional coverage and meet performance/power goals.
- Debug silicon bring-up and resolve electrical/performance issues; document and communicate solutions.
- Collaborate with architecture, design, software, firmware, and tools teams to define validation strategy and test plans.
- Manage validation program execution and schedule.
Requirements
Key technical skills and experience required to perform the role.
- Must-have: Strong FPGA design and prototyping experience for silicon validation.
- Must-have: Practical experience with standards/protocols such as PCIe and Ethernet.
- Must-have: Signal integrity expertise (eye diagrams, jitter, BER) and experience diagnosing electrical/performance issues.
- Must-have: Hands-on experience with lab test equipment, silicon bring-up, and hardware/software debug tools.
- Must-have: Ability to develop test content, measure performance/power, and drive product qualification.
- Must-have: Program management and cross-functional collaboration skills to drive validation activities.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with FPGA design flows, EDA/tools, and continuous improvement of validation methodologies.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical & Electronic (E&E) Engineering required. Master’s degree in E&E Engineering preferred.
