Senior FPGA Engineer — VHDL/Verilog, SystemVerilog Verification
Role Summary
Join SRM Digital's engineering team in Rochester, NY to design, verify, and test FPGA firmware for advanced radio communication systems. The role focuses on RTL development, verification environment creation, and integration of FPGA designs into system-level hardware.
Work cross-functionally with digital hardware, firmware, and system engineers to meet performance, timing, and compliance requirements for defense-related programs.
Experience Level
Senior — minimum 7 years of professional FPGA design experience.
Responsibilities
The engineer will develop FPGA architectures, implement RTL, create verification environments, and support lab bring-up and integration.
- Design and implement RTL in VHDL (and Verilog where applicable).
- Develop SystemVerilog-based verification environments and testbenches.
- Create and execute simulation and verification plans; debug functional issues.
- Perform synthesis, timing closure, and implementation for target FPGAs.
- Support hardware bring-up, lab testing, and board-level debugging.
- Collaborate with system, firmware, and test teams; participate in design reviews.
- Produce technical documentation and maintain design baselines and version control.
- Ensure designs meet performance, resource, and program compliance requirements.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, security, and work-location requirements.
- At least 7 years of hands‑on FPGA design and verification experience.
- Strong RTL development experience in VHDL; Verilog experience is acceptable where noted.
- Practical experience with SystemVerilog verification methodologies and tools.
- Experience with FPGA toolflows (synthesis, implementation) for Xilinx or Intel/Altera devices.
- Proficiency with simulation and verification tools (e.g., Questa, ModelSim) and lab instrumentation for bring-up.
- Ability to obtain U.S. Secret Clearance for defense-related programs.
- Willingness and ability to work onsite in Rochester, NY.
- Good collaboration, documentation, and design review skills.
Nice-to-have: RF/communications systems experience, experience with high-speed SERDES, DSP algorithms, and scripting (Python or TCL).
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field is required; or equivalent practical experience.
