Senior FPGA Engineer, Verification
Role Summary
Lead verification of FPGA designs used in reactor safety, control, and instrumentation systems. Work on safety-critical sensor/actuator handling and communication logic within a cross-functional Embedded Systems team.
Collaborate with RTL designers, hardware engineers, embedded software engineers, and test engineers to validate designs that will control and monitor commercial microreactors.
Experience Level
Senior - requires 7+ years of FPGA verification experience (as stated in the posting).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include defining and executing verification plans, building automated verification infrastructure, and closing coverage for FPGA designs used in safety and control systems.
- Lead verification using SystemVerilog and UVM/OVM frameworks from test-plan development to coverage closure.
- Develop and maintain automated testbenches for functional, regression, constrained-random, and edge-case coverage.
- Define and execute verification strategies for sensor processing, serial communications, and actuator handling logic.
- Collaborate with RTL designers and embedded software engineers to clarify design intent, debug issues, and ensure complete functional coverage.
- Recommend and adopt tools and practices to improve the FPGA verification flow.
- Contribute to RTL design work when required and validate multi-clock domain behavior.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and job constraints are listed below; desired skills follow.
- 7+ years of FPGA verification experience with significant depth in functional verification.
- Expert proficiency in SystemVerilog and UVM-based verification methodologies.
- Strong understanding of FPGA verification flows: simulation, coverage analysis, and regression management.
- Experience verifying multi-clock domain designs.
- Familiarity with serial protocols: UART, SPI, I2C.
- Familiarity with Ethernet and on-chip buses such as AXIS and APB.
- Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.
- Must work 100% onsite at the El Segundo, CA headquarters.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with Microchip PolarFire SoC platform.
- Experience with JASPER or similar verification tools.
- Proficiency with Linux and TCL/bash scripting.
- Strong documentation skills and experience working in multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field (as stated). No alternative degree equivalency language was provided in the posting.
