Job Title
Senior FPGA Engineer (TS/SCI)
Role Summary
Design, implement, verify, and support FPGA firmware for high-power spacecraft systems including propulsion, attitude control, RF, power, and vehicle networking. You will work on mission-critical RTL and support integration, test, and hardware-in-the-loop verification across development and manufacturing.
Experience Level
Senior. The posting expects experienced FPGA engineers; the role references 3+ years working with complex FPGA designs but is senior in title and responsibilities.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include architecture, implementation, verification, and integration of FPGA systems used on spacecraft.
- Own architecture and implementation of programmable logic for vehicle networking, RF systems, and real-time control.
- Implement RTL using VHDL and SystemVerilog.
- Verify and validate designs using simulation, bench testing, and hardware-in-the-loop testbeds.
- Support integration, test, troubleshooting, and manufacturing efforts for FPGA designs.
- Develop tools and infrastructure to enable rapid, high-reliability FPGA development.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; list focuses on required capabilities.
- 3+ years working with complex FPGA designs spanning digital, mixed-signal, or RF applications.
- Development experience with VHDL or SystemVerilog.
- Experience verifying FPGA designs with simulation and hardware-in-the-loop methods.
- Experience with integration, test, and troubleshooting of FPGA systems in complex hardware projects.
- Eligibility to work on export-controlled technology (U.S. person or otherwise eligible under export control rules).
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with Xilinx SoC platforms, DSP implementations, or software-defined radio on FPGAs.
- Experience with high-speed SERDES (Ethernet, PCIe, JESD204C), AXI/AXI-Stream, vendor IP integration.
- Scripting (Python, TCL, Bash), Linux systems programming, driver development, CI/CD for hardware/software.
- Experience with hard real-time embedded systems and software/network performance analysis.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics, or another STEM discipline OR equivalent practical experience (the posting explicitly allows 3+ years of professional experience in lieu of a degree).
