Job Title
Senior FPGA Engineer & Project Lead – DO-254
Role Summary
Lead technical delivery for DO-254 complex electronic hardware projects, focused on real-time embedded and safety-critical FPGA design, verification, and project coordination. Serve as the point of contact between engineering teams, stakeholders, and verification groups to ensure compliance, schedule, and quality objectives are met.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The role expects approximately 3–8 years of FPGA design and development experience.
Responsibilities
Accountable for FPGA technical leadership, project planning, and driving verification and compliance activities.
- Provide technical leadership and drive resolution of engineering issues across FPGA development.
- Coordinate FPGA development activities: estimate workload, allocate tasks, track progress, and maintain project plans.
- Design, implement, and verify FPGA/CPLD hardware in compliance with DO-254.
- Perform requirements analysis, detailed design, root-cause investigation, and implement corrective actions.
- Develop HDL (VHDL/Verilog/SystemVerilog), simulation environments, and verification tests, including HIL.
- Use FPGA tools for synthesis, simulation, and integration and generate testing strategies with verification teams.
- Mentor and guide less-experienced engineers on best practices, communication, and project discipline.
- Manage risks and issues to ensure alignment with schedule, quality, and compliance objectives.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and constraints, followed by desirable skills.
-
Must-have: 3–8 years of hands-on FPGA design and development experience using VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog.
-
Must-have: Practical experience with FPGA toolflows (synthesis, simulation, timing analysis) and hardware verification techniques.
-
Must-have: Experience with embedded systems; C programming experience is a plus.
-
Must-have: U.S. citizenship required; dual citizenship must be disclosed.
-
Must-have: Proven ability to lead work packages, coordinate technical teams, and communicate with stakeholders.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with DO-178C, SoC architectures, and direct PCB/CBA work.
-
Nice-to-have: Familiarity with Earned Value Management (EVM) and Agile methodologies.
-
Other: Preference for candidates near Hartford, CT or Platteville, WI; ability to travel ~6 weeks per year.
