Job Title
Senior FPGA Engineer & Project Lead – DO-254
Role Summary
Lead technical activities for DO-254 complex electronic hardware projects, focusing on real-time embedded and safety-critical FPGA design, verification, and integration. The role coordinates FPGA development, drives issue resolution, and mentors engineering teams to deliver compliant hardware for aerospace customers.
Experience Level
Senior — typically 3 to 8 years of FPGA design and development experience.
Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership across FPGA design, verification, and project execution.
- Coordinate FPGA development activities: create project plans, estimate work, allocate tasks, and track progress.
- Design, implement, and verify FPGA/CPLD hardware in compliance with DO-254.
- Develop HDL (VHDL/Verilog/SystemVerilog), simulation environments, and verification tests, including HIL.
- Use FPGA tools for synthesis, simulation, and integration; manage integration with embedded software and systems.
- Perform requirements analysis, detailed design, root-cause investigations, and corrective actions.
- Generate and drive testing and verification strategies through verification teams.
- Drive issue resolution and ensure timely technical follow-through.
- Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices, project discipline, and clear communication.
- Manage risks and issues to maintain alignment with schedule, quality, and compliance objectives.
Requirements
Core qualifications, plus desirable skills.
-
Must-have: 3–8 years of FPGA design and development experience with VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog.
-
Must-have: Proficiency with FPGA toolchains for synthesis, simulation, and integration.
-
Must-have: Experience with embedded systems; familiarity with hardware integration and testing (HIL).
-
Must-have: U.S. citizenship required; dual citizenship must be disclosed.
-
Must-have: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; ability to lead work packages and coordinate teams.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with DO-178C software processes.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience working directly with PCBs/CBAs, SoC architectures, or C programming.
-
Nice-to-have: Familiarity with Earned Value Management (EVM) and Agile methodologies.
-
Logistics: Preference for candidates in Platteville, WI or Hartford, CT; otherwise able to travel ~6 weeks/year.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related Science/Engineering field (as stated in the posting).
