Role Summary

Technical lead for DO-254 complex electronic hardware projects focusing on real-time embedded and safety-critical FPGA design, verification, integration, and testing. Work with cross-functional teams to deliver avionics-grade FPGA systems compliant with certification objectives.

Position operates in a distributed environment; work can be onsite, hybrid (Connecticut), or fully remote depending on project needs.

Experience Level

Senior — typically 3 to 8 years of FPGA design experience as listed in the posting; leadership and project coordination responsibilities expected.

Responsibilities

Lead and coordinate FPGA development and verification activities within DO-254 projects and ensure technical follow-through across teams.

  • Provide technical leadership and resolve complex issues across FPGA, hardware integration, and verification teams.
  • Mentor junior engineers and promote engineering best practices and project discipline.
  • Define and maintain project-level scope, timelines, milestones, resource allocation, and risk assessments.
  • Design, implement, and verify FPGA/CPLD hardware in compliance with DO-254 requirements.
  • Develop HDL (VHDL/Verilog/SystemVerilog), create simulation environments, and author verification tests including HIL.
  • Use FPGA toolchains for synthesis, simulation, and integration; coordinate testing strategies with verification teams.
  • Perform requirements analysis, detailed design, root cause investigations, and corrective actions.
  • Manage risks and issues to keep projects aligned with schedule, quality, and compliance objectives.

Requirements

Key must-have skills and employer expectations.

  • 3–8 years of hands-on FPGA design and development experience.
  • Proficient in HDL development: VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog.
  • Experience with FPGA toolflows for synthesis, simulation, and integration.
  • Experience leading technical work packages and coordinating multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • U.S. citizenship required; dual citizenship must be disclosed.
  • Willingness to travel approximately six weeks per year; preference for candidates located near Platteville, WI or Hartford, CT.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with DO-178C software lifecycle considerations.
  • Experience working directly with PCBs/CBAs and SoC architectures.
  • C programming experience for embedded integration.
  • Familiarity with Earned Value Management (EVM) and Agile methodologies.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering, or Mathematics field as stated in the posting.
