Job Title
Senior FPGA Engineer, LEO Payload FPGA
Role Summary
Design and deliver FPGA-based digital solutions for Amazon's LEO satellite communication payloads. The role owns FPGA bitstreams from microarchitecture through lab validation and works with systems, hardware, firmware, and software teams to integrate and verify networking functions on modern FPGAs.
Experience Level
Senior-level engineer. The posting specifies 7+ years of FPGA design and implementation experience.
Responsibilities
The engineer will design, implement, validate, and support FPGA-based networking functions for a satellite payload. Key responsibilities include:
- Own one or more FPGA bitstreams through uArchitecture, RTL design, physical implementation, timing closure, simulation, and lab silicon validation.
- Implement digital logic for networking and communications functions targeted to FPGA technology.
- Prototype FPGA implementations to validate architecture and evaluate trade-offs.
- Collaborate with systems architects, HW design teams, and FW/SW teams for system bring-up and end-to-end testing.
- Drive trade-off analysis to optimize cost, size, power, performance, and feature set.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, experience, and hiring constraints.
- 7+ years of FPGA design and implementation experience using SystemVerilog.
- Experience with modern ASIC/FPGA design and verification tools.
- Experience with RTL coding, FPGA optimization for timing and power, simulation, and validation.
- Experience writing test scripts (Python preferred) to validate FPGA images in hardware.
- Experience with Xilinx/AMD or Altera FPGAs and relevant toolflows.
- Ability to collaborate across systems, RF, firmware, and software teams to integrate and test complex systems.
- Export control hiring requirement: candidates must be U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, U.S. permanent residents (Green Card holders), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as refugees or granted asylum.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience developing Python tests for hardware and Cocotb simulation environments.
- Experience with high-speed networking, SerDes, 50G/100G Ethernet, or Interlaken.
- Familiarity with AXI4 and AXI Streaming interfaces.
- Proven track record of fielding and supporting FPGA and ASIC products.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field specified in the posting.
