Job Title
Senior FPGA Engineer, LEO Payload FPGA
Role Summary
Design and deliver FPGA solutions for Amazon's LEO satellite payloads to implement networking and digital communications functions. Work with systems, hardware, firmware, and software teams to define, implement, validate, and release FPGA bitstreams for satellite communication systems.
This role focuses on micro-architecture/RTL design, physical implementation, timing closure, simulation, and lab-based silicon validation. You will shape a new system with few legacy constraints.
Experience Level
Senior β requires 7+ years of FPGA design and implementation experience.
Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities include:
- Own one or more FPGA bitstreams through architecture, RTL design, physical implementation, timing closure, simulation, validation, and release.
- Develop micro-architecture and RTL (SystemVerilog); perform synthesis, place-and-route, and power/timing optimization.
- Create and run simulations and lab-based hardware validation; develop and maintain hardware validation scripts (Python preferred).
- Collaborate with network/system architects and HW/FW/SW teams to implement and integrate FPGA, firmware, RF, and networking functions and perform system bring-up.
- Prototype FPGA implementations to validate architecture and trade-off alternatives.
- Drive trade-off analyses for cost, size, power, performance, and feature optimization.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and hiring constraints; preferred skills listed after must-haves.
-
Must have: 7+ years of FPGA design and implementation experience using SystemVerilog.
- Experience with modern ASIC/FPGA design and verification tools and FPGA timing/power optimization.
- Experience with Xilinx/AMD or Altera FPGAs and associated toolchains.
- Experience writing hardware validation test scripts in Python to validate FPGA images on hardware.
- Experience with uArchitecture, RTL coding, simulation, and lab-based silicon validation.
-
Hiring constraint: Due to export control, candidate must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (Green Card), or lawfully admitted as a refugee or granted asylum.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with Cocotb, high-speed SerDes, 50G/100G Ethernet or Interlaken, AXI4/AXI-Stream interfaces, and a track record of fielding and supporting FPGA/ASIC products.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
