Senior FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Technical lead for FPGA development on airborne radar systems within the Battlespace Awareness team in Fort Collins, CO. Translate signal-processing algorithms into FPGA implementations, establish FPGA design and verification practices, and ensure cross-site integration.

Senior β 12+ years of professional FPGA design and development experience.
Responsibilities
Lead FPGA architecture, implementation, and verification across the product lifecycle; collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and mentor engineers.
- Lead FPGA architecture, design, and verification for airborne radar systems from concept through production.
- Translate signal-processing algorithms into efficient, high-performance FPGA implementations on Xilinx SoC/FPGA platforms.
- Design and implement digital signal-processing chains including data acquisition, filtering, and real-time processing.
- Perform timing analysis, resource optimization, and debugging of complex FPGA designs.
- Establish and drive FPGA design processes, coding standards, and verification methodologies.
- Develop and maintain architecture specifications, design reviews, and verification plans.
- Collaborate with teammates across sites to ensure design consistency and facilitate knowledge transfer.
- Mentor and guide other engineers as the team scales FPGA capabilities.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, security eligibility, and leadership to deliver FPGA-based radar solutions.
- 12+ years of professional FPGA design and development experience.
- Strong RTL design experience in SystemVerilog and/or VHDL.
- Experience with Xilinx FPGA devices and development tools (e.g., Vivado).
- Proven experience implementing digital signal-processing algorithms on FPGAs.
- Experience with FPGA verification methodologies and simulation tools.
- Strong understanding of timing closure, resource optimization, and FPGA design constraints.
- Self-directed technical leadership with ability to drive projects from requirements to implementation.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with radar systems or software-defined radio development.
- Familiarity with high-speed interfaces (PCIe, Ethernet, JESD204B).
- Experience with Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+, Altera/Intel AgileX, RFSoC platforms.
- Embedded software experience for FPGA SoC platforms and MATLAB-based algorithm-to-hardware workflows.
- Understanding of RF systems and digital front-end design; familiarity with DO-254 or similar standards.
- Experience with version control (Git), continuous integration workflows, and aerospace/defense development.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, computer engineering, or a related technical field is required.
