Job Title
Senior FPGA Engineer β Electronic Warfare
Role Summary
The Senior FPGA Engineer will design, implement, verify, and bring up FPGA-based processing for software-defined radio (SDR) platforms on Xilinx SoC/FPGA devices. The role sits on the Electronic Warfare (EW) team in Costa Mesa, CA and works closely with electrical and software engineers to deliver mission-ready EW electronics and FPGA architectures.
Experience Level
Senior. The posting identifies this as a senior role; no specific years-of-experience were listed.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include end-to-end FPGA development, integration with RF hardware, and establishing robust design and verification processes.
- Design and verify HDL (VHDL/Verilog) for FPGA-based DSP and SDR subsystems.
- Integrate VHDL DSP modules into larger system architectures and validate functionality.
- Bring up new PCBs and support board-level bring-up activities for SDR hardware.
- Develop drivers and low-level firmware for custom RF components (PLLs, mixed-signal front ends).
- Work with software and electrical teams to validate interfaces and system performance.
- Help establish and improve FPGA design, verification, and release processes for the team.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and clearances required for the role, followed by preferred skills.
-
Must-have: Proven experience with DSP implementation for embedded devices and/or software-defined radios.
-
Must-have: HDL design experience using VHDL or Verilog.
-
Must-have: Experience with Xilinx SoC/FPGA platforms.
-
Must-have: Experience with bring-up of high-speed digital interfaces (PCIe, JESD, etc.).
-
Must-have: Experience working in a Linux development environment and using tools such as Git and gcc.
-
Must-have: Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
-
Must-have: Experience leading or mentoring FPGA engineers on hardware and FPGA module development.
-
Preferred / Nice-to-have: Embedded Linux driver development experience.
-
Preferred / Nice-to-have: Exposure to wireless communications or radar systems and RF test equipment (spectrum analyzer, signal generator, oscilloscope).
-
Preferred / Nice-to-have: Experience with Xilinx AI Engines or NVIDIA CUDA.
Education Requirements
