Job Title
Senior FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Design and develop digital signal processing applications on Xilinx FPGAs for tactical SIGINT/EW systems. Work with hardware and software teams to define system specifications, implement FPGA algorithms, integrate with RF transceivers and host processors, and verify system performance.
Work directly supports deployed signal collection and processing systems used in national security missions.
Experience Level
Senior β typically requires 5+ years of relevant FPGA and signal-processing engineering experience.
Responsibilities
Primary duties include architecture, implementation, verification, and integration of FPGA-based signal processing capabilities.
- Architect and implement FPGA solutions for wideband RF signal collection and processing systems.
- Design and implement SDR-related FPGA algorithms (peak detectors, digital filters, modulation/demodulation, CORDIC, FFT).
- Develop VHDL code, constraints, and testbenches; run simulations and synthesis using Xilinx Vivado.
- Integrate FPGAs with RF transceivers, peripheral devices, and host processors (ARM/SBC).
- Debug and verify FPGA systems using oscilloscopes, spectrum/network analyzers, and signal generators.
- Document architectures and detailed designs; support system-level integration and field troubleshooting.
- Travel locally up to 10% to support integration, testing, and field deployments.
Requirements
Essential technical skills, security clearance, and experience for the role.
Must-have:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with FPGA and signal-processing design for RF applications.
- Recent experience implementing software-defined radio features on FPGAs (e.g., peak detectors, filters, modulation/demodulation, CORDIC, FFT).
- Experience with Xilinx Ultrascale and/or Versal (RFSoC) device families.
- Proficiency with VHDL and the Xilinx Vivado toolchain for design entry, constraints, simulation, and synthesis.
- Experience debugging FPGA-based systems using lab test equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal/network generators).
- Experience with RF transceiver design across multiple frequency ranges.
- Active Top Secret clearance (US citizenship required) and ability to obtain SCI.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience interfacing FPGAs to ARM processors or microcontrollers.
- C/C++ experience in embedded or firmware environments.
- Experience with Embedded Linux or PetaLinux on Xilinx platforms.
- MATLAB experience, particularly HDL Coder or Embedded Coder.
- Experience with Altera/Intel FPGAs and Quartus toolchains.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience; the posting accepts equivalent experience in lieu of degree.
