Job Title
Senior FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Lead FPGA development for airborne radar systems on the Battlespace Awareness team in Fort Collins, CO. Serve as the technical lead for FPGA architecture, RTL design, verification, and cross-site integration efforts.
Primary mission: translate signal-processing algorithms into high-performance FPGA implementations and establish reproducible FPGA design processes and best practices for production systems.
Experience Level
Senior β requires approximately 12+ years of professional FPGA design and development experience.
Responsibilities
As technical lead you will:
- Lead FPGA architecture, design, implementation, and verification from concept through production for airborne radar products.
- Translate signal processing algorithms into efficient FPGA RTL (SystemVerilog/VHDL) and design DSP chains for data acquisition, filtering, and real-time processing.
- Perform timing analysis, resource optimization, and debugging on Xilinx SoC/FPGA platforms.
- Establish and document FPGA design processes, coding standards, and verification methodologies.
- Collaborate with cross-site engineering teams to ensure integration and knowledge transfer.
- Develop and maintain architecture specifications, design reviews, and verification plans.
- Mentor and guide other engineers as the team scales FPGA capabilities.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and conditions:
- 12+ years professional FPGA design and development experience.
- Expert RTL design skills in SystemVerilog and/or VHDL.
- Proven experience with Xilinx FPGA devices and toolchains (e.g., Vivado).
- Experience implementing digital signal processing on FPGAs.
- Experience with FPGA verification methodologies and simulation tools.
- Strong understanding of timing closure, resource optimization, and FPGA design constraints.
- Self-directed technical leadership and ability to drive projects from requirements to hardware implementation.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with radar systems or software-defined radio development.
- Familiarity with high-speed interfaces (PCIe, Ethernet, JESD204B).
- Experience with Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+, RFSoC, or Intel/Altera platforms.
- Embedded software experience for FPGA SoC platforms and MATLAB-driven algorithm-to-hardware workflows.
- Understanding of RF front-end design and DO-254 or similar airborne hardware standards.
- Experience with version control (Git), continuous integration workflows, and defense/aerospace projects.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field required.
