Job Title
Senior FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Develop and verify FPGA firmware and infrastructure for high-power satellite platforms. Work on mission-critical RTL that controls propulsion, attitude, RF, and power subsystems as part of a cross-disciplinary software and firmware team.
Small, fast-moving engineering organization focused on reliable, real-time systems for space applications.
Experience Level
Senior. Role expects experienced engineers; the posting specifies multi-year experience with complex FPGA designs (see Requirements for details).
Responsibilities
Design, implement, verify, and support FPGA-based systems used across spacecraft subsystems.
- Own architecture and RTL implementation of programmable logic for vehicle networking, RF systems, and real-time control.
- Implement RTL using VHDL and SystemVerilog.
- Verify and validate FPGA designs via simulation, bench testing, and hardware-in-the-loop testbeds.
- Support integration, system-level test, and troubleshooting during development and manufacturing.
- Develop tools and infrastructure to enable rapid, high-reliability FPGA development and delivery.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience required to perform the role.
- 3+ years working with complex FPGA designs spanning digital, mixed-signal, or RF applications.
- Proven experience implementing RTL in VHDL and/or SystemVerilog.
- Experience verifying FPGA designs using simulation, bench testing, and HIL methodologies.
- Experience supporting integration, test, and troubleshooting of FPGA designs at the system level.
- Experience developing build, test, or verification infrastructure for FPGA projects.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced startup environment and collaborate across software, firmware, and systems teams.
- Must be a U.S. person as defined by ITAR or otherwise eligible for required export authorization for this role.
Nice-to-have
- Experience integrating logic onto Xilinx SoC platforms.
- Digital signal processing and software-defined radio implementation on FPGAs.
- Experience with high-speed SERDES interfaces (Ethernet, PCIe, JESD204C) and protocols like AXI/AXI-Stream.
- Experience integrating third-party vendor IP and hardware/software driver development on Linux.
- Scripting experience (Python, TCL, Bash) and CI/CD for FPGA flows.
- Experience with hard real-time embedded systems (bare-metal or RTOS), software verification methods, or performance debugging.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics, or another STEM field, OR 3+ years of professional software/firmware development experience (equivalent practical experience acceptable). Fields mentioned include computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, math, or related STEM disciplines.
