Job Title

Senior FPGA Engineer

Role Summary

Lead FPGA development for airborne radar products on the Battlespace Awareness team. Translate signal-processing algorithms into production FPGA designs, establish FPGA design processes and verification practices, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across sites to design, prototype, verify, and field radar systems.

Experience Level

Senior-level β€” requires 12+ years of professional FPGA design and development experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Lead FPGA architecture, RTL design, and verification for airborne radar systems from concept through production.
  • Translate signal-processing algorithms into efficient, high-performance FPGA implementations on Altera/Intel FPGA platforms.
  • Establish and drive FPGA design processes, coding standards, and verification methodologies.
  • Design and implement DSP chains including data acquisition, filtering, and real-time processing.
  • Perform timing analysis, resource optimization, and debugging of complex FPGA designs.
  • Develop and maintain design documentation, architecture specifications, and verification plans.
  • Collaborate with cross-site engineering teams to ensure integration and knowledge transfer; mentor other engineers.

Requirements

Must-have technical qualifications:

  • 12+ years of professional FPGA design and development experience.
  • Strong RTL design skills using SystemVerilog and/or VHDL.
  • Proven experience implementing digital signal-processing algorithms on FPGAs.
  • Experience with Altera/Intel FPGA devices and development tools (Quartus); familiarity with Xilinx tools (Vivado) noted in the posting.
  • Experience with FPGA verification methodologies and simulation tools.
  • Strong understanding of timing closure, resource optimization, and FPGA design constraints.
  • Self-directed technical leadership with the ability to drive projects from requirements to implementation.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with radar systems or software-defined radio development.
  • Familiarity with high-speed interfaces (PCIe, Ethernet, JESD204B).
  • Experience with Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+, Altera AgileX, or RFSoC platforms and embedded software for FPGA SoCs.
  • MATLAB and algorithm-to-hardware workflow experience.
  • Understanding of RF systems, digital front-end design, and DO-254 or similar hardware design standards for airborne systems.
  • Experience with version control (Git), CI workflows, and aerospace/defense systems development.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field is stated as a requirement in the posting.
