Role Summary

The Senior FPGA Engineer will design, implement, verify, and support production-quality FPGA solutions used in defense systems. The role sits in the Multi-Product Power & Digital (MPD) team and supports FPGA-based designs for missiles, radars, and electronic warfare systems.

This is an onsite position in McKinney, TX responsible for delivering FPGA systems from requirements and architecture through verification, production, and sustainment.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include leading FPGA development, verification, and integration activities and delivering documentation and schedule commitments.

• Provide full lifecycle support for production-quality FPGA designs across major vendors and device families (AMD/Xilinx, Intel/Altera, Microchip/Microsemi).
• Implement FPGA designs in VHDL for applications such as gigabit serial interfaces, RF DSP, controls, data links, embedded processing, and processor interfaces.
• Translate system-level requirements into FPGA requirements and architect FPGA-based systems (parts, interfaces, CONOPS).
• Lead individual designs and small teams; operate with minimal oversight and drive execution to budget and schedule.
• Develop and execute verification using directed and constrained-random tests; track functional and code coverage.
• Perform integration and lab debug of FPGA/ASIC hardware.
• Create complete documentation including requirements, verification plans, and user guides; support technical reviews.
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in knowledge transfer activities.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience required for this role.

Must-have:

• Minimum 5 years of relevant FPGA/ASIC engineering experience.
• FPGA/ASIC design experience (VHDL) or FPGA/ASIC verification experience (SystemVerilog).
• Experience with AMD (Xilinx), Intel/Altera, and/or Microchip devices and tools such as Vivado, Quartus Prime Pro, or Libero.
• Hands-on experience integrating and debugging FPGA/ASIC hardware in a lab environment.
• Experience with timing closure, clock domain crossing and reset domain crossing analysis, and constraint development.
• Experience with source code management, design reviews, and code release in a team development environment.
• Proven ability to lead designs and deliver results with minimal oversight.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience with radar processing, image processing for visual/IR sensors, or embedded systems using ARM/Microblaze/NIOS processors.
• Experience with gigabit/multi-gigabit transceivers (MGTs), constrained-random verification in UVM, or High Level Synthesis (HLS).
• Experience with vector processors or GPUs, project management tools (Earned Value, Agile), or proposal development.

Education Requirements

Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) field. Preferred: advanced degree(s) in Electrical Engineering or a related STEM discipline; the posting states a suitable degree may be counted as up to 2 years of work experience. Equivalent practical experience is implied as an alternative.
