Job Title

Senior FPGA Engineer

Role Summary

Design and implement FPGA/ASIC-based proof-of-concept and prototype systems for real-time sensor, communication, and embedded platforms. Work on multi-disciplinary teams to develop high-throughput signal processing, low SWaP-C platforms, and tightly integrated hardware/software solutions.

Experience Level

Senior. Typical experience guidance: generally a senior engineer with substantial hands-on FPGA/embedded design experience; see Education Requirements for degree-equivalence details.

Responsibilities

Deliver hardware and firmware components for prototype embedded systems and support system-level integration and test.

  • Develop FPGA and ASIC components and integrate them into embedded systems.
  • Implement algorithms in hardware and software on reconfigurable SoC and SDR platforms.
  • Rapid prototyping of sensor, communication, and navigation systems on embedded platforms.
  • Integrate third-party IP, perform synthesis, simulation, and timing closure activities.
  • Participate in architecture, verification, documentation, and system-level test.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams and communicate technical results clearly.
  • Support deployment, verification, and maintenance activities for prototype systems.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, security and workplace requirements. Preferred skills listed separately.

  • Proficiency with RTL languages (VHDL, Verilog/SystemVerilog) and RTL synthesis/simulation tools.
  • Experience implementing complex embedded systems and integrating third-party IP.
  • Familiarity with industry best practices for design, verification, test, and deployment.
  • Experience with processor interfaces (memory-mapped peripherals, interrupts) and system integration.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • U.S. citizenship required for consideration for security clearance; capable of obtaining and maintaining a DoD Secret clearance.
  • Position requires a minimum of four days per week onsite.
  • Preferred / nice-to-have: experience with scripting/build tools (Tcl, Python, CMake), MATLAB exposure, and familiarity with hardware emulation and EDA ASIC tools.

Education Requirements

Typical qualification patterns noted in the posting: a Bachelor’s degree plus ~5 years of related experience; or a Master’s degree plus ~3 years of related experience; or a PhD with relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of related education and work experience. Preferred fields include Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or similar technical disciplines; M.S. or PhD in ECE or similar is listed as preferred.
