Job Title

Senior FPGA Engineer

Role Summary

Design and implement FPGA solutions for RF and wireless products within a cross-functional hardware and software team. Work emphasizes high-speed interfaces, DSP baseband processing, system integration, and FPGA bring-up for time-sensitive mission applications.

Tasks include architecture, HDL development, timing/pin-constraints management, system-level debugging, and verification against performance requirements.

Experience Level

Senior. 10+ years of relevant FPGA/DSP design experience required.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design, develop, modify and evaluate FPGA and electronic hardware for RF/wireless systems.
  • Define and apply pin and timing constraints; implement and verify high-speed interfaces such as JESD204C and multi‑Gbps Ethernet.
  • Develop and verify HDL (VHDL, Verilog, SystemVerilog) implementations and integrate DSP algorithms on FPGA.
  • Debug complex FPGA designs in-system, perform hardware bring-up and validate performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on system architecture, integration, and testing.
  • Support software and DSP integration using Python, C/C++, and MATLAB/Simulink as required.
  • Travel up to 10% for local support and testing.

Requirements

Must-have qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in FPGA/DSP design for RF or communications products.
  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain at least a Secret security clearance; must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Proficiency in HDL coding: VHDL, Verilog, and SystemVerilog.
  • Experience managing pin and timing constraints and debugging complex FPGA systems.
  • Experience with high-speed architectures (JESD204C, 2.5G/10G/40G/100G Ethernet) and VITA-49 transport layer implementation/debug.
  • Solid understanding of communications systems: RF filtering, modulation/demodulation, channel estimation/equalization, FEC, AFC, AGC.
  • DSP baseband signal processing, task scheduling, and peripheral programming/control.
  • Experience programming DSPs and FPGAs using Python, C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink and VHDL.
  • Self-starter with strong collaboration and communication skills.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with wireless standards (3GPP/LTE, WCDMA, GSM, IEEE 802.11, IEEE 802.15).
  • Mixed-signal experience: quantization, dynamic range (SFDR), power optimization, and baseband equivalent modeling.
  • FPGA/SoC bring-up experience and familiarity with SoCs (UltraScale+, Zynq 7000, Agilex).
  • Experience with softcore processors (Picoblaze, Microblaze, NIOS).
  • Experience with DMA/AMBA buses (AXI/AXIS, ACP).
  • Simulation experience with SystemVerilog classes and packages.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering or a related field is specified; the role emphasizes significant professional experience in DSP/FPGA design (10+ years) in addition to the degree requirement. U.S. Citizenship required.
