Job Title

Senior FPGA Engineer

Role Summary

Design and implement FPGA and ASIC components and rapidly prototype embedded sensor, communication, and navigation systems on modern SoC and SDR platforms. Work on multidisciplinary R&D projects for government sponsors focusing on real-time signal processing, high-throughput architectures, and low SWaP-C solutions.

Experience Level

Senior — typically requires several years of professional FPGA/embedded systems experience; candidates are expected to contribute at a senior technical level.

Responsibilities

Work with a team to deliver prototype embedded hardware and firmware for research and development projects.

  • Rapid prototyping of advanced sensor, communication, and navigation systems on FPGA/SoC and SDR platforms.
  • Develop FPGA and ASIC components, implement algorithms in hardware and software on embedded platforms.
  • Perform RTL development, synthesis, simulation, verification, and testing.
  • Integrate third-party IP and support system-level integration and deployment.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams on architecture, implementation, documentation, and version control.
  • Optimize designs for throughput and SWaP-C constraints and support hardware-in-the-loop testing.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, security eligibility, and work-location expectations.

  • U.S. Citizenship required; capable of obtaining and maintaining a DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Strong RTL experience in VHDL and/or Verilog/SystemVerilog, including synthesis and simulation tools.
  • Experience implementing complex embedded systems and integrating processor interfaces (memory-mapped peripherals, interrupts).
  • Familiarity with industry best practices for design, verification, test, and deployment; experience integrating third-party IP.
  • Proficient with scripting and build tools such as Python, TCL, and CMake.
  • Demonstrated ability to work onsite a minimum of four days per week.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with AMD Xilinx MPSoC/RFSoC/Versal or Intel Agilex SoC, EDA ASIC tools (synthesis, timing closure, place & route), UVM/OVM verification, hardware emulation platforms, MATLAB, and familiarity with advanced process nodes and foundries.

Education Requirements

Typical qualification matrix: a Bachelor’s degree plus roughly 5 years related experience; or a Master’s degree plus roughly 3 years related experience; or a PhD with relevant experience; equivalent combinations of education and related work experience are acceptable. Preferred fields include Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or closely related technical disciplines.
