Senior FPGA Engineer

Role Summary

Senior FPGA Engineer to design, develop, and validate FPGA-based systems for mission-critical embedded products in aerospace, defense, aviation, or advanced manufacturing. The role is on-site at the El Segundo engineering facility and works closely with hardware, software, systems, and test engineering teams.

Experience Level

Senior — typically requires 5+ years of FPGA development experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

• Design, develop, simulate, and validate FPGA architectures for high-reliability embedded systems.
• Develop RTL using VHDL and/or Verilog/SystemVerilog.
• Integrate FPGAs with embedded processors, sensors, communication interfaces, and high-speed data systems.
• Perform timing analysis, debugging, verification, and hardware bring-up.
• Support system integration, validation, and troubleshooting in lab and production environments.
• Participate in design reviews, prepare technical documentation, and support compliance activities.
• Optimize FPGA performance, power, and resource utilization for real-time applications.

• Must-have: 5+ years FPGA development experience; hands-on with VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog.
• Must-have: Practical experience with Xilinx, Intel/Altera, or similar FPGA platforms and toolchains.
• Must-have: Knowledge of high-speed interfaces such as PCIe, Ethernet, SPI, UART, and DDR memory.
• Must-have: Experience with simulation and verification tools (ModelSim, Vivado, Quartus, Questa) and strong debugging/hardware validation skills.
• Must-have: Ability to work onsite in El Segundo, CA.
• Preferred / Nice-to-have: Experience with DO-254, MIL-STD, or other regulated development environments.
• Preferred / Nice-to-have: Familiarity with embedded systems, DSP or real-time signal processing, and radiation-tolerant or safety-critical systems.
• Preferred / Nice-to-have: Active Secret or Top Secret clearance is a plus.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field (as stated in the posting).
