Job Title
Senior FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Lead design and delivery of FPGA-centric embedded compute solutions used for vehicle management, DSP, and networking. Own the product portfolio and roadmap and coordinate a cross-functional engineering team (electrical, firmware, FPGA, test) from concept through sustainment.
Work targets high-performance PCBs and host boards for FPGAs/SoCs in high-reliability aerospace and defense applications.
Experience Level
Senior; typically requires 7+ years of relevant hardware and board-design experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include product ownership, hardware design leadership, and cross-team execution.
- Define and own product portfolio and technical roadmap for core embedded compute products.
- Lead cross-functional engineering teams to deliver PCB and FPGA/SoC-based systems.
- Drive full hardware product lifecycle: requirements, architecture, design, bring-up, test, integration, and sustainment.
- Establish and enforce development workflows, verification, and system testing practices.
- Coordinate with product management, internal stakeholders, and customers on requirements and deployment.
- Manage schedules, milestones, task assignments, and deliverables across teams.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.
- 7+ years designing, testing, and troubleshooting complex PCB/board designs in military, automotive, or similar hardware domains.
- Proven experience leading cross-functional hardware or embedded systems product teams from concept to deployment.
- Proficiency in an HDL (VHDL or Verilog).
- Familiarity with MCU, CPU and FPGA devices and common interfaces (Ethernet, CAN, I2C, SPI, PCIe, USB).
- Experience in signal integrity and power integrity design.
- Knowledge of modern analog and digital electronics and circuit design.
- Competence with test equipment (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, thermal chambers, current probes) and test automation.
- Proficient with Altium Designer or equivalent EDA tool.
- Familiarity with flight software architectures, high-reliability aerospace design practices, and redundant aircraft systems.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and flight-critical embedded software design.
- Familiarity with DO-254, DO-178C, DO-160, DO-311A.
- Familiarity with MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-461.
- Expertise in computer networking and implementing enhanced security measures.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
