Senior FPGA Engineer

Role Summary

Tektronix is hiring a Senior FPGA Engineer for the Beaverton, OR engineering team to define and implement FPGA logic for high-speed signal measurement systems used in electronic test solutions.

The role focuses on FPGA design, verification, and system-level integration to meet customer and product requirements within an Agile development process.

Experience Level

Responsibilities

Deliver FPGA-based measurement subsystems and related designs, collaborate across engineering and external partners, and contribute to product quality and process improvements.

  • Design and implement FPGA logic for high-speed electrical and optical measurement systems.
  • Define and verify measurement subsystems to meet customer and industry standards.
  • Create schedules, identify project risks, and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Participate in Agile product development, peer review, and peer testing activities.
  • Drive engineering process improvements for quality and efficiency.
  • Conduct feasibility research for new products, features, or measurement capabilities.
  • Maintain current knowledge of FPGA architectures, tools, and industry trends.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, experience, and professional attributes.

  • 5+ years of successful FPGA design experience with industry partners (chip vendors, EDA tool vendors, manufacturers, integrators).
  • Experience coding FPGAs in Verilog and/or SystemVerilog.
  • Solid application of electrical engineering design principles for electronic products.
  • Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience with peer review, peer testing, and maintaining engineering documentation.
  • Familiarity with Agile development practices.

Education Requirements

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering. A Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering is preferred. (Degrees referenced in original posting.)

Preferred / Nice-to-have

Additional skills and deeper experience that strengthen candidacy.

  • 10+ years of FPGA design experience (preferred for more senior roles).
  • Experience with Intel and Xilinx FPGA architectures and vendor toolchains.
  • FPGA verification experience using UVM.
  • Embedded software experience (C/C++) and scripting (Tcl, Python).
  • Knowledge of serial data link protocols and related design considerations.
  • Solid theoretical understanding of DSP concepts (Fourier transforms, aliasing, decimation/interpolation).
