Senior FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Contract FPGA engineer assigned as a W2 employee of Donatech to develop, integrate, and verify FPGA solutions for defense-related client programs. The role works on an Agile engineering team and supports hardware bring-up, peer reviews, and certification activities.
Experience Level
Senior β typically requires 5+ years of relevant experience, or 3+ years with an advanced degree in a related field.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include design, implementation, verification, and integration of FPGA systems and supporting engineering processes.
- Perform requirements capture, design, and verification of FPGA implementations.
- Integrate FPGA designs onto target hardware and support lab bring-up and validation.
- Support and participate in peer reviews, certification analysis, and design reviews.
- Follow client engineering development, quality processes, procedures, and guidelines.
- Participate in Agile team meetings and program planning activities.
- Manage change requests and task assignments using Jira.
Requirements
Mandatory technical, security, and employment requirements.
- U.S. citizenship required.
- Active U.S. government issued Final Secret security clearance required.
- Must be able to be employed as a W2 employee of Donatech.
- Minimum of 3 years professional experience in FPGA development, ASIC front end, or related areas.
- Proficient in VHDL and/or Verilog for FPGA/ASIC design and implementation.
- Experience with digital circuit architecture, resource tradeoffs, timing analysis, and timing closure.
- Familiarity with FPGA platforms and toolchains (examples: AMD/Xilinx Vivado, Intel/Altera Quartus, Microchip Libero).
- Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills for FPGA/ASIC systems.
- Proficiency with revision control tools and concepts (e.g., Git, Subversion).
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with high-speed interfaces and protocols (DDR, PCIe, Ethernet).
- Familiarity with chip-level verification techniques and SystemVerilog, constrained-random methods, or functional coverage.
- Experience in ASIC/FPGA lab validation using advanced laboratory equipment.
- Experience with Unix, scripting, C/C++, or Perl.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Education Requirements
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field with a minimum of 3 years relevant experience. Equivalent practical experience is implied by the alternative advanced-degree clause.
