Role Summary
Design, implement, and verify FPGA-based systems and embedded firmware for Electronic Safe and Arm Devices used in Department of Defense weapon systems. Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams on architecture, HDL development, verification, and hardware integration in a mission-critical aerospace/defense environment.

Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include FPGA architecture, HDL development, verification, firmware development, and laboratory hardware bring-up.
- Analyze system requirements and define FPGA architectures.
- Design, implement, and debug FPGA logic using Verilog HDL.
- Design state machines, timer chains, sensor interfaces, communication protocols, and ADC/DAC interfaces.
- Develop and execute functional verification plans; perform simulation and debugging.
- Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and peer reviews.
- Develop embedded firmware in C and support microcontroller integration.
- Perform hardware bring-up, prototype testing, and lab validation using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, and JTAG/ICE debuggers.
- Support continuous improvement of hardware and firmware development processes to improve quality and time-to-market.
Requirements
Must-have:
- Strong Verilog HDL development experience.
- FPGA design, simulation, implementation, and debugging experience.
- Digital logic design and architecture expertise.
- Strong C programming and embedded systems development experience.
- Experience with functional verification and unit/product-level testing.
- Hands-on use of test and debug equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, JTAG/ICE).
- Experience with code reviews, version control workflows (e.g., Git, SVN, TFS), and prototype development.
Nice-to-have:
- SystemVerilog verification, UVM/OVM/AVM experience and QuestaSim.
- Microsemi / Actel FPGA experience.
- Aerospace & Defense or safety-critical systems knowledge (DO-254 exposure).
- Microcontroller firmware experience and higher-level language exposure (e.g., C#).
