Senior FPGA & Emulation Performance Engineer
Role Summary
Work within Arm's Productivity Engineering Group to improve performance, utilization, and availability of the company's global emulation and FPGA hardware acceleration infrastructure. The role spans benchmarking, scheduler integration, vendor API automation, monitoring, and platform throughput improvements.
Experience Level
Senior β requires a minimum of 5 years' experience in hardware emulation and FPGA environments.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities focus on measuring and improving platform throughput, availability, and engineering productivity for emulation and FPGA workloads.
- Benchmark emulation and FPGA workloads to quantify performance and utilization baselines and track improvements over time.
- Optimize scheduling, queuing, and recovery mechanisms to increase system availability and job throughput.
- Integrate with EDA vendor APIs to automate resource management and streamline job orchestration.
- Collaborate with the in-house scheduler team to improve resource allocation and scheduling intelligence for emulation/FPGA workloads.
- Develop data pipelines and performance dashboards to visualize trends and guide tuning efforts.
- Drive continuous improvement through automation and workflow optimization.
- Work with EDA tool vendors to validate and deploy performance enhancements for production workloads.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience required for the role.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in hardware emulation and FPGA environments.
- Proven ability to benchmark and profile emulation workloads and interpret performance data.
- Understanding of emulation and FPGA prototyping workflows (build, compile, partitioning, mapping, execution, debug, regression).
- Experience integrating vendor APIs or SDKs into automation or monitoring solutions.
- Familiarity with scheduler design and integration.
- Proficiency in Linux and scripting (Python, Bash) for automation and analysis.
- Data-driven approach to performance validation and strong analytical skills.
- Familiarity with metrics frameworks such as Prometheus and Grafana for system visibility.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience building workflow orchestration or monitoring tools for large-scale verification environments.
- Exposure to cloud-hosted emulation or elastic compute models.
- Knowledge of EDA tool internals and licensing mechanisms.
- Experience collaborating with EDA vendors on joint optimization or benchmarking initiatives.
