Job Title

Senior FPGA & Emulation Performance Engineer

Role Summary

Improve the performance, utilization, and availability of Arm's global hardware acceleration infrastructure. You will work in the Productivity Engineering Group across emulation, FPGA, scheduling, operations, and EDA vendor integrations to increase platform throughput and engineer productivity at scale.

Responsibilities

Deliver measurable improvements in emulation/FPGA platform throughput, availability, and efficiency.

  • Benchmark emulation and FPGA workloads to quantify performance and utilization baselines and track improvements.
  • Optimize scheduling, queuing, and recovery mechanisms to improve system availability and job throughput.
  • Integrate with EDA vendor APIs to automate resource management and streamline job orchestration.
  • Collaborate with the in-house scheduler team to enhance scheduling intelligence and resource allocation for emulation/FPGA workloads.
  • Develop data pipelines and performance dashboards to visualize trends and guide tuning efforts.
  • Drive continuous improvement through automation and workflow optimization.
  • Work with EDA tool vendors to validate and deploy performance improvements in production workloads.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience.

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in hardware emulation and FPGA environments.
  • Proven ability to benchmark and profile emulation workloads and translate results into targeted improvements.
  • Understanding of emulation and FPGA prototyping workflows (build, compile, partitioning, mapping, execution, debug, regression).
  • Experience integrating vendor APIs or SDKs into automation or monitoring solutions.
  • Familiarity with scheduler design and integration.
  • Proficiency in Linux-based environments and scripting (Python, Bash) for automation and analysis.
  • Data-driven, test-based approach to performance validation and strong analytical mindset.
  • Familiarity with metrics and observability tooling such as Prometheus and Grafana.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience building workflow orchestration or monitoring tools for large-scale verification environments.
  • Exposure to cloud-hosted emulation or elastic compute models.
  • Knowledge of EDA tool internals and licensing mechanisms.
  • Experience collaborating with EDA vendors on joint optimization or benchmarking.
