Job Title

Senior FPGA Design & Verification Engineer — TeraWave

Role Summary

Design and verify FPGA-based digital signal processing and physical-layer implementations for the TeraWave next-generation modem. Work across the full development lifecycle from architecture and algorithm mapping through implementation, verification, and hardware bring-up.

Collaborate with systems, DSP/communications, RF, and avionics teams to deliver resource-optimized, high-reliability FPGA solutions for spacecraft and ground systems.

Experience Level

Senior — expects 7+ years of FPGA design and verification experience.

Responsibilities

Deliver FPGA modem and physical-layer designs and ensure they meet system requirements.

  • Architect and design FPGA implementations of modem and physical-layer functions on SoC FPGA platforms.
  • Translate communications/DSP requirements into resource-optimized RTL (VHDL/Verilog/SystemVerilog).
  • Develop and execute verification strategies, including self-checking testbenches, constrained-random verification, and coverage-driven approaches (e.g., UVM).
  • Perform timing analysis, timing closure, and resource optimization for high-performance FPGA/SoC designs.
  • Support integration and hardware bring-up, lab testing, debug, and validation against system-level performance requirements.
  • Co-design and optimize physical-layer algorithms with DSP engineers for fixed-point FPGA implementation.
  • Contribute to design reviews, documentation, and design-for-test/design-for-reliability practices suitable for aerospace applications.
  • Apply radiation-tolerant and high-reliability design considerations for space-based systems.

Requirements

Must-have technical experience and skills; preferred items are listed separately.

  • Must-have: Strong RTL design proficiency in VHDL and/or Verilog/SystemVerilog.
  • Must-have: Experience implementing DSP or communications/modem functions in FPGAs (modulation/demodulation, FEC, filtering, digital front-ends).
  • Must-have: Proficiency with FPGA development toolchains and simulation tools (e.g., Xilinx/AMD or Intel/Altera toolchains).
  • Must-have: Experience with verification methodologies, including self-checking testbenches and functional coverage.
  • Must-have: Strong understanding of timing constraints, timing analysis, and achieving timing closure.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with SoC platforms integrating FPGA fabric and embedded processors.
  • Nice-to-have: Embedded development experience in C/C++ or low-level driver development.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience developing test-venue software/hardware for hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
